Welcome to the web home of the CiRCE Institute Teacher Apprenticeship in classical, Christian instruction. We invite you to take a moment to look around, come up with a few questions, and if you don't find answers here on the site, to contact us.
As a classical teacher you pursue the most noble endeavor – and one of the most challenging. Unruly students, difficult ideas, and the challenges of effective communication tax your resources. But you persevere because you believe that the principles of the Christian classical vision have the power to heal our culture and our society and to cultivate wisdom and virtue in our young people.
The CiRCE Institute Apprenticeship – an in-depth, personal teacher-training program in which a small group of teachers are mentored directly by a CiRCE certified Head Mentor - trains you in the essential teaching skill of classical rhetoric using The Lost Tools of Writing™ and provides a focused setting in which you contemplate several Great Books in Socratic discussions with other apprentices and practice teaching in an informal, relaxed environment that nonetheless pushes your mind and encourages your spirit.
Great ideas. Great discussions. Classical rhetoric. A Combination designed to make you a great classical teacher.
CiRCE Statement of Methodological Commitment
Statement about Truth
- Truth is.
- Truth can be known.
- Truth can be communicated.
- Truth is spiritual. It is apprehended through the senses and the soul.
- Truth is good for its own sake and does not need to be justified by application or relevance.
Statement about Human Nature
Human nature is essentially good as demonstrated by creation and incarnation. It has been taken into the trinity in Christ. Christ took on all of human nature so that he could redeem all of it. However, in us it is in a fallen state and only by the grace of God can it be restored to its glory. Those who are faithful to Christ and suffer with him in this life will see their human natures perfected in glory.
Statement about Education
Christian classical Education is the cultivation of wisdom and virtue by nourishing the soul on truth, goodness, and beauty by means of the seven liberal arts and the four sciences so that, in Christ, the student is enabled to better know, glorify, and enjoy God.
